If you remember the screen-shot on the right than you used to add host aliases, set your host name etc. from Ubuntu Hardys menu System --> Administration --> Network.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) this menu was gone, and the options can't be found anywhere.
Install instructions
sudo aptitude install gnome-network-admin
After this instruction the menu entry returned and you can tweak your network as usual.
Thank you! I thought I had a corrupted install of a 64-Bit 8.10 ISO. Question: I'm new to Linux, but how in the world was anyone supposed to know this workaround? The "Help" file for 8.10 still shows screenshots for 8.4 [as I suspected], as if the "Menu" tab and applet are simply there, with no instructions as to how to activate them. Maddening - but you saved the day!

ReplyDeletePretty maddening to have help files that dont help, so thanks, saved me a lot of grief.
